    Hi there,

I will be going abroad soon with my pc, dismantled and carried as hand luggage, i plan to keep my two hard disks wrapped in anti static plastic. My question is when hand luggage is scanned at check in, can any damage be done to the hard disks in this process?

I had gone abroad once like this before, and one of my HDs hasnt been the same since, and a friend had mentioned airport scanning to me, telling me that only laptops are protected from it.

If damage occurs, is there any protective material I can buy for this? Thanks for your help guys.

from what i know there should be no damage to the hard drive. I have brought my laptop through the airport several times with no problems.

X-rays (gamma radiation) won't damage hard drives AFAIK The discs themselves won't be hurt, it has nothing to do with shielding. However, I'd keep a hard drive well away from metal detectors from what I have read.
