Does My Signature Offend You?

I've run into some cases in the past where people have taken personal offense to my signature in the past, thinking I was calling them an idiot. I was going to make a poll, but figured I'd get no responses, just votes.

So, I am curious, what does my signature mean to you, and does it offend you?

To me, it means that nobody is as smart as they think they are, and those who realize it are smarter for it.

So I am curious, what do you folks think?

    I agree with your definition.

In one of the Dirty Harry movies, Clint Eastwood said "A man has got to know his limitations." I think of that when I read your sig.

    Nope Adryn.

Reason... is that as its not directed to any person or group of people and offense will be in the mind of the reader... if I wanted to be fussy ( PC ) about signature lines and quotes people have I could justify being offended in some way by 90% of them... do I... NO, so long as they are within an accepted group ( not racist, sexual, derogatory to a certain group of people ) then there is no problem in my book, just depends on the type of forum a quote/sig is used.

Meaning... of it is similar to the types of conversations we actually have in work, dealing with what types of disease we are researching no-one person knows everything so you have to deal with your knowledge limitations and be honest enough to say "I just dont know!" and learn from others.

and if you are offened, then turn the ability to view signatures off in your user CP under Edit Options :)

I like it ... mainly because if someone was offended by it, that means they didnt read it.

My personal opinion is that anyone who thinks anyone's signature is aimed toward them personally IS an idiot. I mean, seriously...it's on ALL your posts, not just the ones in which you respond to a particular person.

As for your signature in particular...Unless it says "Joe Smith, you are ignorant", then it's merely a statement about people in general. And it's a good one, at that.

Some people have too much time on their hands, and/or have made a career out of being offended by things which have nothing whatsoever to do with them.

Nothing in your sig to be offended at Adryn. All of us have areas where we're knowledgeable, and areas where we're ignorant. The smart person knows when to shut up, sit down and let somebody better equiped deal with an issue.

There's nothing as annoying as narrow-gauge "experts" that think their training and status in ONE area gives them the right to shoot their mouths off in other areas. Ego and misplaced pride.

Plus, awareness of our shortcomings gives us a roadmap to study to fill in the gaps, in areas where that's worth our time. If you know it all already, you've quit learning anything, reinforcing your ignorance.

I think it really shows that someone did not know the extent of their ignorance if they were offended by your signature. As if you thought of that one person in the world when you created your signature, which has been there at least as long as I have been here. Some people are too vain for their own good.

Anyone that doesn't understand your sig, and that it's just a signature, shouldn't be anywhere near a computer or anything that uses electricity.

You can't please everyone, and there are always a few sensitive souls who think that we all have to tread on eggshells so they aren't offended.

I'm more offended by Got Woot. :)

Just to add my two Pesos worth.

Nope, not offensive in the least. Just more a truism than anything else. For example, the older I get, the more knowledge I have, true - but also the more I realise, I'm relatively ignorant (i.e. lack of knowledge) in many areas. For everything I know, there are many things I don't. Just means life's a learning experience.

One could misconstrued my Sig., I suppose into thinking I don't think anyone's conversation is any good. Not at all. The 'Paranoid Android' thing was just a bit of a private joke, because of the hard time I was going through at the time. No hidden message.

One can take offence of anything if they really want to. "Are you calling me a W00T?" :p

I agree with Phantom's response. There is nothing in your signature that isn't true and shouldn't pose a problem for anyone. I've followed most of your posts and threads and have seen nothing other than you trying to help people with the knowledge that you have!:)

Anyone who got offended never heard the statement before. Even our regionalisms divide us in how we use language. We all seem to like it, so if it doesn't bore you too much, just keep explaining it. I hope you keep it. I agree it's a reminder of what we don't know.

After all, you're not using the first U.S. Continental Navy's "Don't Tread on Me" :D

I like it. I used to have a sig along the same lines on another forum site.
