Does that mean this software installation can be used on a mac, or pc with having to use a separate special installation file or disc?

Cross-platform means that the software is essentially the same in all versions - but, the installers will be different; lots of money for the PC version and the same amount for the Intel-based Mac version ;)

So your saying that there wouldbe two separate installers for mac and pc? I ask because I need this for my mac and pc. & don't want to buy two separate versions.

Yup, all cross-platform software works the same way, you download the installer for the OS you have or intend to use it on. With pay-for software like this, the keys etc. will likely be different - and tied to the OS version, too.
