Does this do what I think it does?

Is the intention of this program to copy commercial movies on DVD and to clear them of all protections? Not that I am interested in copying movies...I just thought this was illegal.

Legally it is a bit of a grey area. Theoretically you should be able to make backups of any media that you own as long as it is purely for the purpose of a backup copy.

Many companies are attempting to make backups illegal via the DMCA process. They prefer that you be required to pay for every media copy whether or not it is for backup.

Very true. In some countries, it is legal for backup purposes to copy discs which you have bought. Is it sometimes referred to as fair use ?
I copied an entire 9 DVD boxed set (took ages), and I'm glad I did, because one of the originals got damaged when someone left if out its case. It won't play now, but luckily the copy still does.

Dont get why they trying to make it illegal, if you legally bought a copy of a cd or a DVD then its yours and you should be able to mkae backups since the original wont last forever or in case of a unfortunane accident.

Those that are trying to make it illegal, those bastards only want to make more money than they already have.
