Does This Price Seem To Hefty For A Laptop?

I need a Mac to use Pro Tools audio software as well as Final Cut pro video editing software. Does this seem like too much money to spend? Look at the photo above and let me know what you think of the specs vs the price.

I know a lot of pc fan users are going to drill it away, but the software I need is pretty much Mac dependent plus I've just always wanted to own a Mac.

Sure wish they had financing though. I have the money but rather pay it in small lump sums so I don't feel the hit! I wonder if they do have financing? If anyone knows a better place for me to get it financed in Canada let me know!

    Thanks

With a Mac, you will always pay way more than the hardware is worth. You can get a comparable PC laptop for MUCH less.

However, Mac's aren't prone to viruses (though I've never had a problem using safe browsing habits and proper security software), and do run the proprietary programs you want to use.

I've heard it's possible to install a Mac OS on a PC, though I'm not sure of the legality regarding it and have never tried it myself. If that were an option, I'd suggest getting a PC laptop for way less and doing that... but again I'm pretty sure the Snow Leopard OS isn't licensed for use on PCs.

So, it all comes down to if you're willing to spend the money for a Mac.

    1,800.00 US dollars = 1,758.56 Canadian dollars

Did you configure all the same bundles he did? Thats a reasonable rate for a macbook.

No Colemanguy as I could not get the 'Build' link to work but looking at the specs it seems a good price

I got the price from the Mac Canada site. And all I did was add a 500Gb 7200Rpm hdd instead of the 5200Rpm because Pro Tools requires the speed or it won't work under it's system req specs. Also added a Hi Res Glossy screen for sharper video editing on Final Cut software.

Those prices seem good for USA but I doubt you added the extra stuff I did. If so than wow I should just order it from the US!!! I don't think they ship to Canada though. They'd probably make me buy off the Canadian site. And charge me crazy duty/import fees in the mail I'd bet!!

Yeah... Mac prices are mostly standardized. I stand by my original post in this thread.

I agree it could be cheaper if I buy a pc. But Macs are really reliable from what I hear. I've never owned one but would love it to be my first.
