Strange and I do mean strange problem last night.

I was watching Paycheck, on a DVD and during the previews, my Receiver kept turning off. Very strange behavior, I have had it for five years and I have never had this problem. In fact I use it every day as my regular stereo.

If you look at the picture I used to have the reciever above where it is now. Mind the origami, my wife is nuts about doing it ;) Never had the problem there. I just moved it down lower because I wanted to be able to see it better, as it is now eye level.

Here is the wierd part. The books to the left and the right were not there, I had DVDs there, last night. When I removed the DVDs, I did not have the problem, when I put them, back, bam it happend again. What the heck?

    Anybody?

Are you saying the problem doesn't happen when there are books there, but it happens when there are DVDs there? I was going to say maybe the books or DVDs are causing a heat buildup, but that may not be the problem. Anyway, you may want to blow the reciever out with some of that canned air anyway, it couldn't hurt.

Very strange. Let us know if you figure it out.

The behavior sounds like overheating, but the shelf looks to have enough room overhead for decent airflow. Are there cooling slots on the sides of the receiver case? If so, I do suspect that having them blocked by DVDs or whatever is cutting down cooling air enough to overheat it. Instead of storing DVDs there, put some of the wife's Origami next to the receiver. Those won't block the cooling slots. ;)

    GT nailed it.
the dvd's have the plastic that makes it much harder to get any air at all in
the books, aren't as close and have some air flow(barely)
I am sure that if you either left the books (minus an half on both sides) it should be fair even some dvd's wouldn't hurt(there is enough room to put a few)
but better left alone to breath

i'm thinking magical dvd-hating trolls. or possibly a next door neighbor with your remote who hates having dvd's by the receiver. but whatever it is, it's not me...... *hides remote* :D:D

seriously, i'll have to put one in for overheating (if it's not a master off). if it's a master off, there's something wrong with the power supply. could be loose connection, could be aging components.

it is the red hat. it is a magical mind control device for older women. place a sheet of aluminum foil below it and it should fix it. **wink**

Is that the AV-DV 75? Mine had the power relay switch malfunction and it would shut off at inopportune times, too.

mew2 I also am a firm believer in the power of aluminum foil !

If you have enough of it you can stop many natural disasters!!!!  :(

    Thanks everyone.

What was happening was bizarre to say the least. I thought it was the remote acting up or a cable like someone said, but that would make it shut off. It does have vents in the side, so it must have been a heat thing. What I really don't understand is that the books are just as big as the DVD. I thought perhaps it was teh magnetic strips or something.

The model is an AIWA AV D75 like just plain thought. So what did you do just playin? Did you trash it?

I am going to put the books up top and the origami or something little down below. Thanks geeks, I knew I came to the right spot :)

I hear a definate click when it shuts off, and again when turns its self back on! :(

Probably be a recall one of these years

Yea... as a matter of fact I am ...
..and parts of some other socks I have

Is that part of what happens for buying the AVDV75??

Fortunately for the rest of us NO!
Seems you have opened your house to gnomes. They are like gremlins..but very real! They come out in the open only when you sleep.. They seem to usually only steal the matching other piece of what ever is missing...They have also been known to pull plugs during your favorite movie or what ever.
It seems very likely, a baby Gnome came with your AVDV75, and now its at it's prime age for mischif . I too found one last week, and managed a snapshot

@ Caretaker...please don't bump up threads that are so old. It would be best for you to start a new thread BUT if your topic closely relates to an old thread by all means give a refrence link to it in your initial post.

    Thanks!:) AbbySue
