Does anybody have any recomendations and good experiences with any particular domain name registration company?

I have used Netfirms in the past they offer both registration and hosting options. www.netfirms.com. THey also offer hosting with MS Extensions in case you decide to use MS Front Page or Publisher to create your site.

No complaints from me on thier performance. Nothing *stellar* but nothing bad either.

    Just an update/question post.
Currently using GoDaddy (no problems here, but they sold out, and have seen some not-so-good comments) for some registrations (not hosting), but looking for better price (and good service) for a non-profit domain registration.
    At...
    http://lifehacker.com/5683682/five-best-domain-name-registrars
...the poll (not sure how old it is) shows the below info.
Took a look at some and added comments in brackets, ie [akm...comments].

    - Namecheap 38.34% (3,509 votes) [akm... similar price (little bit less) as GoDaddy, but much less price for 'domain privacy' *. Website pretty simple. Currently leaning this way.]

    - GoDaddy 26.5% (2,426 votes) [akm...comments above.]

    - 1&1 13.68% (1,252 votes) [akm... took a look, but kinda 99centy, ie 1st year .99 and much higher than most for years after, and trying to sell hosting in amongst trying to just get a simple answer. Website somewhat complicated.]

    - Gandi 8.11% (742 votes)

    - Name 4.05% (371 votes)

    - Other 9.32% (853 votes) Total Votes: 9,153

One followup comment was that DreamHost(.com) should be included.
[akm... looked a their site, and costs ok, something about "Domain Privacy for free!", but no explanation (re cost for more than one yr etc) at checkout, and have support request in for that question]

Thoughts on any of above ?

*Am assuming domain privacy is about the same thing for all registration services ?

    +1 for Go Daddy
I personally have been using them for the last 10+ years as well as setting up domains and hosting with them for another 15 people all with no problems :-D:cool

A word of warning though, please pay careful attention to their rather aggressive marketing as they may sell you things you don't really need ;)

If you do have problems their support is very good and when I have needed something fixed, it is resolved very quickly and with minimum fuss :cool

Compared to registrars here in Australia, they are about one tenth the price with four times the storage and ten times the bandwidth and if that is not enough they sometimes have specials where they offer even better deals on registrations of 5 or more years ;)

    Thanks for the info !
    Good to hear about GoDaddy.
Ive had good GD experience (support etc) in the past, but was curious about the service since the original owner sold out.
In regard to 'things dont really need'... your thoughts on, does one really need 'domain privacy' service/s, if the registration contact info is really not that 'private' ? rolleyes
Also, Ill probably be headed to the MG 'hosting' thread for update info on that subject... currently using HostMantis, and very happy with the service, but there may be better/less expensive ? :confused

I have mostly done business setups and never used privacy for the domain although I have arranged SSL certificates through GD for several ecommerce sites that had credit card payments and used Magento for the cart with Temando for the shipping system.

The extras they try to push on you is extra domain names for 12 months free or three domain names for the price of two. Stuff like this is OK if you need several domain names but most people don't and it might start out as free..... ;)

Never heard of HostMantis but also haven't really looked. I checked out several USA registrars in the early days and Go Daddy had the best long term deals and the best bandwidth. Bob Parsons started the company and sold it for IIRC a couple of $billion or so in 2013 but he stayed on as Executive Chairman. Too soon to notice any changes but will probably know in the next year or two ;)

Thanks again for the insight !
Sounds like dont need the 'privacy' stuff, so probably stick with GD for now.
Now off to 'hosting' thread rolleyes
    Take care.

Wish MGs would allow editing for longer than 10min, but with that said, am actually heading off to what looks like a more related place... 'Web Hosting'
