Put this in off topic cos I want personal oppinions please :)

Need a small amount of webhosting and domain name, just wondered what you guys use that offer good service and aren't overly expensive.

It's going to be for a small business. :)

I use Register Dot Com for my domain name. Don't have a sight so I have no idea on the cost there.

Register is a bit higher than say GoDaddy, but I can do 5 years at a time with Register and that is worth the extra money. Don't have to worry about squatters that way.

Is supposedly pretty good, and from the ads i've seen in my computer magazines, it looks pretty reasonable and flexible to meet the individual customers need.

I use discountasp.net I use asp.net (2.0 but they support 1.1 too) for most of my sites. its pretty reasonable too only $90 a year with over 1gb storage and 20 gb transfer with addons if I need more.

I've never seen the server down or had it be reported as down. it is ocasionally a little slow (but barely noticable)

mcadam, I would suggest that you register your domain name separately to your webhost. I used GoDaddy to register my domain name and 1&1 as my webhost.

I find both pretty good but it's all a matter of taste. One of the reasons that I went for 1&1 is because they have both IMAP and POP3 in respect of emails.

    Good Luck

I'm in the process of transfering several .org names from GoDaddy to myself for the robotic combat club, the price is dramatically cheaper. Talking to several webmaster types (I'm basically clueless in this field) there are some negitives with GoDaddy, but they are inexpenisive and reliable. Their host rates are inexpensive too. They have the Linux option, where you can host more than one domain name, and the Windows option, just one to an account. Where it gets fuzzy for me is the options within the options, what software you can run from within these domain site.

Not that it matters, but they are based out of Tempe, Arizona.

I have looked at 1&1, their business deal seems good for just over £10 a month - get 2 MySQL databases along with everything else.

I'm meeting with the guy tomorrow to discuss things and see what he wants, then I'll report back :)

    Just got back -

He went for the cheaper option from 1&1 as it had everything he needed - which wasn't much!

Started on the site (there's only going to be two pages) so might call back for help later :D
