Dongles

Hi all.
Does a dongle talk to any infrared capable device.
ie, my daughter has a Samsung E720 mobile.
It didn't come with a usb cable but is infrared capable.
I am getting a new phone that will be infrared capable, will one dongle talk to both.
Is it the phone software that does the trick?
It's no use me getting a usb cable for each phone if one dongle does the lot.

maybe try in hardware

 

if you have an infared header on your mainboard then you can hook up the proper cable to it and use that for both phones. I do believe that they also make USB IRDa dongles. If you buy a USB version then make sure you get a "fast IRDA" version. The orginal ir spec was quite slow.
