ok, sorry for the uninformative title. Here's the scoop. Earlier today (while NOT browsing the web) I had about 6 popup windows appear one after the other. While this was happening EasyMessenger was installed on my PC without my permission. I have run Adaware, Spybot, Norton, and HJT all in safe mode and have removed several nasty things. I didn't remove enough I guess though, because if I am connected to the internet I get multiple popups. Here is my hijack this log:

    First:

Please update to Hijack This 1.99.1 and attach a new log using the new version.

    Second:

Please attach log from Normal Mode after you have completed the README!

    Third:

Now, Please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99.1 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an ATTACHMENT.
All instructions are covered in the sticky thread
NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a Hijack This log as an ATTACHMENT to your message (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post). Please close unnecessary running programs before you run HijackThis. You must close each of the following: your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc.

DO NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT

Here's the updated log. Sorry this post is so short, lots of popups.

I see you have updated your HJT and ran it in normal mode, however I do NOT see where you have ran the online scans. Its very important you do this as it will remove most of the infections if they exist. Just glancing, your log isnt that bad, but just in case follow below.

Please follow every step that applies to you in this thread before we continue.

READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

After do this then post a new HJT from normal mode.

    Good Luck:)

Ok, here's the new updated hjt log. I couldn't run the Norton online scan for some reason. Link took me to a defunct page, then redirected me to another page, then closed it's own window. <--???)

    First:

The very first thing that jumps out at me is that your Operating System is WAY out dated. After we get your system cleaned up, I would recommed your going to Windows Updates and getting updated to Windows XP Service Pack 2.

    Second:

Please look in Add or Remove Programs for the following and Uninstall them if found:

    Easy Messenger
(Note: If you are familiar with this, them ignore all of these entries. If not, remove all.)

Please print out these instructions so that you can operate with All Browser Windows CLOSED.

Please make sure System Restore is OFF and the Viewing of Hidden Files & Folders is Enabled as per the tutorial.

Now, look in Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) for the following running processes and, if you see any of them, try to END them:

    cid.exe

    em2.exe

    svcmm32.exe

    gceokwm.exe

    sysmonnt.exe

Now scan with HijackThis and Check the Boxes for the following:

Make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AUNPS2] RUNDLL32 AUNPS2.DLL,_Run@16
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cid] C:\Program Files\Easy Messenger\cid.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [USB controller] "C:\DOCUME~1\w00t!\LOCALS~1\Temp\ICD2.tmp\svcmm32.exe" /startup
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [sysmonnt] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysmonnt

Again, make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

    NOW:
Please boot into Safe Mode with the Viewing of Hidden Files & Folders Enabled and navigate to and DELETE the following if they should remain:

C:\Program Files\Easy Messenger ←–– Delete this whole folder if it exist!

    C:\WINDOWS\system\gceokwm.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysmonnt.exe

    NEXT:
Run CCleaner and Spybot S&D and have Spybot fix what it finds.
Note: Dont forget to update Spybot S&D by selecting "Search For Updates"

Then, as an added precaution, Go to Start > Run and type: cleanmgr and then click OK. Make sure the boxes for these are checked:
    Temporary Files
    Temporary Internet Files
    Recycle Bin

    And Click OK.

Reboot to Normal Windows , Scan with HijackThis and attach the new log.
Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now.

    Good Luck!:)

Ok, I did what you said. I updated to SP2, which is odd because I updated to SP2 about a week after it came out...weird. I took the steps you outlined. Here's the new HJT log.
