    hey everyone,
i am a new member and am looking for help with the removal of the netster pop-up. although i would not consider myself in anyway a player in the 'computer game', i have found solutions to past problems. however, there is not much on this spyware and i don't understand the instructions from previous post.

what are the exact steps to get rid of this pain in the arse? my add/remove page says nothing of nester.

    please help

thanks (i should have named myself 'simpleton')

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
      • Bitdefender
      • Panda Scan
      • HijackThis

    Netster Promblems (part2)

    hello again,

i ran all of the all of the spywares (Spybot, Microsoft, etc.) along with AVG and although a couple of things were picked up, i'm still getting hit up with the stupid Netster pop-up. So i read carefully and followed the directions for HijackThis (i hope). Please take a look at my log and tell me what i should do next. As i said before, I'm kinda new at this so you might have to spell it out for me.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Re: Hopefully Netster is Gone (part3)

Is there a reason why you did not run Bitdefender and attach the log as requested in step 6 of the READ & RUN ME?

Looks like Ewido found and fixed a few of your problems. This means that some of what I give below for you to fix may no longer be found, but it does not hurt us to double check.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).
Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7D9CB362-375B-4FB9-8024-E55079CC69D1}" - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: ngsw40.clsIS - {94A6E167-AE9F-4040-8E01-DE9C182EEADB} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ngsw40.dll

    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - (no file)

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: pmkjk - pmkjk.dll (file missing)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - WRLogonNTF.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete
    :
    C:\WINDOWS\sngpw40.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Sngsh40.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\switchagreement.txt
    C:\WINDOWS\system\sngsh35.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system\sngsw40.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcya.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ngpw40.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ngsh35.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ngsh40.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ngsw40.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\sms_msn.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\sms_msn40.exe

Additional step to delete files in the Downloaded Program Files folder :
    - Click Start, Run, and enter cmd in the box and click OK. This opens a command prompt windows.
    - Enter the following command lines each followed by the enter key
    cd C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\
    attrib -r -h -s start28.inf
    del start28.inf
    attrib -r -h -s eied.inf
    del eied.inf
    exit

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST)
    .

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.
