    xpsp3 legit (home), avg free, pc tools fw free.

    Hi, last night i got hijacked and had numerous trojans and stuff on my pc. I followed the clean up procedure today, thought everything was ok. I noticed when i was surfing the net that i kept getting redirected to random websites, so i installed the redirect remover in mozilla, which i thought helped. Then i got redirected again and at that point avg picked up another trojan 'trojan horse cryptic.cm'. (in temporary 'net files).

    So i guess my system might still be contaminated or vulnerable. I had a trojan/hijack problem a while ago, which i resolved here, but tbh i don't think my system has been 100pc since the first problem, (posted here...)
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1456410#post1456410

    I never had any trojan problems before, now it's much more frequent to pick them up and i dont know why, given i havent changed anything. Ive tried and read all the guides. This hijacking was very similar to the first one a while back.

    Thanks!

    You have become re-infected!!

    Please run this: GMER - running with a random name and attach the log from GMER.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\windows\Idunakokupujaxak.dat
    c:\windows\Isutesup.bin
    C:\Documents and Settings\Melanie\Local Settings\Application Data\2307417872
    C:\Documents and Settings\Melanie\Local Settings\Application Data\Mi715R2
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\07xR1EX57b2
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\2307417872
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Mi715R2
    C:\Documents and Settings\Melanie\Templates\Mi715R2

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the previous file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    * GMER log
    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Hi Tim, thanks for helping.

    Unfortunately when i scan with GMER i get the blue screen crash befrore the scan has finished. Tried it 3 or 4 times with same result. I had no windows open, and alll that was running was my security progs - avg, superantispy, pc tools firewall.

    incidentally, this is what it said when i loaded up, before i started the scan..

    Hi Tim, thanks for helping.

    Unfortunately when i scan with GMER i get the blue screen crash befrore the scan has finished. Tried it 3 or 4 times with same result. Had no windows open, just security progs running.

    Should i carry on with the combofix stuff or (?)

    Yes, please carry on with the combofix stuff. Then please:

    * Please download TDSSKiller to your Desktop
    * Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    * Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter.

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -v

    * Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    * When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    * TDSSkiller log
    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Hi, 2 problems now...

    1. When i went back on the internet, i was re-hijacked immediately by the same bogus software as a few days ago "XP antimalware". I have left it as is, as to not interfere with our procedure, but its chosen itself as my firewall prog and is generally being a pain in the butt.

    2. When i try and drop the txt. file onto the combofix.exe icon, it doesnt 'go into' the cf icon, the 2 icons just swap places. Don't know what i'm doing wrong here.

    thanks.

    Update... You can ignore the last post, i did a quick run through of the read and run programs to get rid of the re-hijacking.

    Then i figured out the text drag into combofix (i had been using lower case lettering), i did that - and it seemed to work fine. However, i can't find the log where you said it would be. There is now a 'combofix' file in C:, but it's like a my computer icon and clicking it similarly takes you to my list of drives. No log in sight though.

    Then i did the other two steps, i'll attach the logs.

    Your combo log is here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Melanie\Desktop\combolog.txt --> but you need to clean up your desktop to find things! Remove everything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and definitely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

    I tried to do that second combofix text drop that you told me to, but got a blue screen crash and the computer rebooted. When it tries to load up windows its crashing every time, an endless loop. The crash happens just as the windows logo comes up.

    I tried booting in safe mode, same result.

    :cry

    The crash happens so quickly, its impossible to see the message, it just roboots itself.

    Should i go ahead with the recovery guide?.

    Yes...as I think possibly your userinit file is what is wrong.

  18. yolkboy

    Tim, i just did 'part 1' of that guide, but when i'd finished it and it rebooted, still the same crash happened, even in safe mode.

    Looking at part 2, it looks like a requirement is that windows boots.

    Maybe i did something wrong in the command prompt, but i thought i was doing ok(?).

    Try step 5 of the first part again in the recovery console. It would be good if you knew what the error message was! Sigh.

    tried again, same result.

    I took a video of the bluescreen, and freeze framed it. See the attatchment, it's very blurry, though maybe you can understand it?

    If it is a stop error that ends in 78, it is probably a RAM issue or at least hardware related. It is something else if it is a 0x0000007E error. I cant see it clearly enough. Either way, I suggest that you now post in the software forum to try to resolve this and get your system to boot up.

    If you cannot boot in any mode ( safe or normal mode ) and you cannot run any of the READ & RUN ME there is not much we can do for you except suggest what is in the below quote box

    Now i'm really lost as to what to do next Tim, i read through the microsoft page and it's very confusing to me. I can't see what the next step of recovery is, for my scenario. I dont understand a lot of the microsoft lingo.
    Maybe i have a 'boot sector virus'?

    Am i doomed?

    edit, ok just got your last post, thanks - our other pc runs vista not xp, so maybe we are doomed.

  28. TimW

    It is very possible that it is caused by a boot sector virus. We were seeing a bad signature in your userinit file. Trying to fix it may have removed it from your system. At this point, you can try running the Avira boot scan, doing a repair install to see if you can get it to boot up ( which may or may not work ) or remove the hard drive and slave it to a different computer ( that is well protected ) and try to remove the malware that way.
    I haven't used the Trinity Rescue kit, so I can't tell you how successful that may be.
