Hi, I was recommended by stumbleupon, for a good site to watch movies online for free as icefilmstube.com When going onto the site it says I need to download the Xvid plugin. So I went to Xvid directly and followed their download link which took me to digital-digest.com I ran the downloaded file, Xvid-1.3.2-20110601.exe went through the setup and license agreement and it now shows in my Program Files (x86) folder.

However when I go back to the site it still says I need to download the plugin. I have a Windows 8 OS, using chrome browser and I have AdblockerPlus & Ghostery extensions installed so pretty sure its not an advert trying to trick me. Is there something I need to do to chrome to get it to read the plugin? i thought it would just run automatically like flash. Help please

i emaild the question to Xvid themselves, and i got this response. just thought i would post it incase anyone else has this problem with sites.
    Hi,

please note that we do not distribute any video online. So when you come
across some website that is distributing videos seemingly in Xvid format,
this is not something that we operate. Xvid is just a technology to compress
digital video that we are developing as an open-source software. In case you
experience problems with some specific website, you should inquire about
it with the respective site owner.

That said, recently some websites have been reported to us as fake movie
sites requesting users to download and install a manipulated "xvid.exe" or
"XvidSetup.exe" file. Your description of not-working web videos/movies
might be related to something like this.

Those websites ask users to download a file called "xvid.exe" or
"XvidSetup.exe" upon clicking on any video link provided. The file
"xvid.exe" obtainable from these websites however isn't a genuine
copy of Xvid at all but contains the spyware "ADSPY/AdSpy.Gen2".

Those scam movie sites host no movies at all! Often, also the shown
"player" app is just an animated gif image or a simple Flash animation.
Sometimes this "player" animation is also displayed as an ad banner on
third-party websites. The whole thing is a scam aimed at tricking users
into installing the adware AdSpy.Gen2 disguised as "XvidSetup.exe".

In case you downloaded a program from such a web site don't install
the file then! And if you already did, get a good virus or malware
scanner (e.g. Avira, http://www.avira.com/en/index), scan your system
and have the malware program removed.

If you want to download our Xvid codec, please do so only via the links
provided on our homepage. Xvid is completely ad- and spyware free when
    obtained from a trustworthy source:
