My problem only started a few days ago. I use AVG free, and when browsing the internet, I got a message from AVG saying it found a downloader.agent virus - but it did not give me any option to clean or delete, only to move to the virus vault - there were 2 specific alerts, details as follows:-
    1. virus name - downloader.agent
    path - C:\documents and settings\(my name)\local settings/temporary internet files/content.IE5\WPI3GL2Z\1[1].exe
    2. virus name - downloader.agent
    path - C:\windows\systemz1.exe

After I first received this message, I noticed that when I restart my pc, my clock goes back 1 hour and time settings change to 2005-01-01
after searching the internet, and downloading several trojan removal tools and various things, which didn't remove it, I found your site and followed the READ & RUN ME FIRST instructions, but still have the problem. I am attaching my logs as requested on the aforementioned thread.

Actually you look pretty good.....let's just do this:

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Be sure to tell us how things are running.

Thank you so much. As soon as my pc re-started after following your steps, I waited with baited breath to see if the clock changed, and hey presto! it didn't.....things seem to be good now.

As requested, I attach the new mglogs zip file and the log from avenger.
Am away now to browse the internet, without, hopefully, annoying messages telling me that I have a virus :)

Thank you again for your great expertise.

Sorry, just one last question. I now have numerous programms running at start up (basically all the things downloaded as per your guidance) - should I keep all of these running, or should I now delete some/all of them.

I have AVG free, SuperAntispyware, spyhunter and trojan remover all wanting to scan as pc starts up! Looks like it might be a bit overkill now....

Which ones do you suggest I keep and run?

    Thanks again.

    Your logs are clean.

We can stop some of it by doing this:

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
You can keep anything we had you download, if you want. Both MalwareBytes and SuperAnti-spyware are good backup programs to have on hand.

You may wish to use a Startup Manager

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

1 If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)

    * Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
    * "%userprofile%\Desktop\cf" /u
o Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
o This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    * Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.
2 *If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
3 *If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    6. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Everything is well and truly working fine now. Have followed your final steps, and have now installed 'online armor' firewall.

Once again, I am very greatful for the help and bow to your expertise.

    Thanks again. :wave
