DOWNLOADING from Internet TROUBLE

    I can't download ANYTHING from the internet. Every time I try, the download is interrupted & the file becomes a PART file. I'm also having problems with my AVG anti-virus program (8.5 free ed.). After an auto. update yesterday, the tray icon, & it looks like the entire AV program, just VANISHED. I'm unable to open the AVG interface from the icon on my start-up screen because the shortcut, which was there BEFORE the update yesterday, is now gone too. I'm receiving a tray icon message indicating that my computer is no longer protected by an AV. MORE PROB'S.: SYSTEM RESTORE doesn't work either; I tried it to 4 diff. time points prior to yesterday - I get a message saying that it could not be restored to the desired time. I think I have a BIG-TIME REGISTRY PROB., but I can't scan it w/ REGISTRY MECHANIC because the download file in PART. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

    welcome to the forums :)

    wouldn't bother using reg mechanic it could cause even more damage even if you could get it to work right now.

    I'm leaning towards thinking you should follow the below just to rule out malware. You could have nasties lurking which are screwing up your AV and preventing you for downloading.

    Don't forget if you have trouble downloading on this machine as you are.. you can always use another computer > transfer files to CD or flashdrive > and load them that way. If things don't run right for you in normal mode, do try safe mode.

    THANKS for the advice. Unfortunately it did NOT work. I tried to download AVG 8.5 AV FREE but I get a message "download blocked by your SECURITY ZONE POLICY - llnwd.net". I only have this 1 computer & I ran SYSTEM RESTORE in SAFE MODE - didn't work. My Yahoo! & AVG toolbars, as well accuweather.com status bar disappeared too. I'm a novice at this so I really don't know where to go from here. EVERY DOWNLOAD from the web results in a PART file, so i'm just "peddling in place".

    With IE I'm getting an error box: "AVG Security Toolbar was unable to connect w/ AVG 8.0".
