I have xp pro and have been attacked by malware. I am trying to download the suggested programs in the list but has slowed my computer so much that it wont download programs. Safemode seems to work well. Can I start in safemode w networking and download the programs from there?

    Hi fordfisher!

Try downloading Spybot S&D, CCleaner and the MGTools.exe in Safe Mode with Networking and see if you can run them. Post us the MGlogs.zip which will be located under C:\ (or the drive of your operating system). These all have instructions and links in the READ & RUN ME FIRST

Is your computer having other problems besides being slow?

What caused the problem is that I was watching video and downloaded an active x control that was malware. It loaded several anti spyware programs onto my desktop and tookover my startpage even my desktop wallpaper changed to this red you have been infected apocolyptic sign. Any thing that I try to do gives me popups to "viruses on your computer" and my norton says that it is removing viruses. It is just constant. I ran adaware and super spyware remover and got some things off but evertime i went to the net the computer ran so slow I couldnt download any programs from this site. Now on your suggestion I have rebooted my laptop (infected computer) in safe mode with networking and have downloaded all the software suggested and have just run combo fix it is now restarted in regular mode and says it is preparing a log report.
    THanx for your help.

    Hi fordfisher!

In that case, run these instructions instead: Removing Zlob aka SmitFraud, SpySheriff, Infections

This scan produces two logs. Please attach the first log here before you continue with cleaning, because the second log will overwrite the first one. When you finish, please go back to step two and do the instructions in the link posted there.

    Thank you

I dont think that will be necessary since downloading and running the programs suggested (in safe mode w/ networking) seems to have cleaned the computer completly. Everything is working fine as before. Would you suggest going ahead and using the alternate programs as a precaution?
Thank you very much for your invaluable help

    Hi fordfisher!
I suggest going to the READ & RUN ME FIRST and scrolling down to the bottom of the page to where you find the link for your operating system. Click on that and on the page that comes up, look for the download link for MGTools.exe. This will install a set of diagnostic scans and produce a set of logs called MGlogs.zip which you can attach to your next post. That would give us a chance to see if you needed to go through any of the other removal tools or not.
