I have several programs I have downloaded from the net and want to put them on my new PC. Can I just copy the EXE files to disc? Or do I need to download everything to the new PC?

Also, anyway to transfer a program from one PC to another without the disc??

you should be able to copy the .exe files (what you click to start the installer) to a cd (or whatever) to copy to another pc. if you had a thumbdrive, external h/d you can copy/move them from one pc to another. or (more advanced) if you had your own network, you can wirelessly x-fer stuff back and forth from pc to pc. i find thumbdrives more handy. g/l - sos

also, you didn't say what os the pc's are (i'm assuming the programs you want to copy to new comp are compatible)?

    Sorry

I am running XP SP2 on both and have a wireless network for all of us to get on the net but have not used it to share. Guess I can learn how to do that too :D

I do have an external drive for backup and a thumb drive as well. Need to start thinking with the technology I have instead of in the past lol

short answer NO long one maby you can copy the installer. the program itself uselly NOT
most new programs make Registry entries that help the program do stuff and there no easily copied to a new system

    In theory, yes.
    Realistically, no.
As mentioned above, when a program is installed, it creates many different registry keys, deposits .dll, .dat, .exe, .cab, and other file types all over the hard drive in many different locations. To move a program to another PC would require you to round up all the reg keys and files, remember where you found 'em, burn 'em to a CD, then copy 'em back into the exact same places on the other PC, creating new folders and reg keys where and when needed. So, in theory, it's possible. I just can't imagine anyone going thru the nightmare of actually doing it....

sosaman, I think that was answered.

    This
was the question that the answer is NO. You can't transfer a program. You need to install it on the other computer and the normal way to install is by using the exe file. You can transfer files that do not need to be installed.
