Out of nowhere my IE8 started to say "can't display webpage" on everything!
So after running my ccleaner and malewarebytes as well as my AVG, I did a system restore. No luck. I finally uninstalled it and started using IE7 again. It worked! Untill I tried to download my AVG again. The dialog box came up, I clicked run, it ran to 100% and another box came up, I clicked run on that and...NOTHING! I tried saving it to downloads and desktop with no results, then I went and tried to download anything else I could find that I may want and nothing worked. I have Vista. I have ATTUverse for ISP so cant start in safe mode with networking to troubleshoot things I may have missed. I allready did all the basics, ie. resetting IE settings. I just don't know what to do now, and thanks to this issue I have no antivirus/maleware software at all except for windows defender.
I will respect FOREVER anyone who can help me fix this without me having to do a system recovery!!!

Problem is probably caused by AVG resident shield leftovers. I expect that you'd like to avoid fiddling with the registry, so, download AVG using another computer, transfer it to your machine (e.g. on pendrive) and install.

Thanks Nu-Bee! I read somewhere about AVG causing some probs. My problem is I don't have another computer to download AVG from. I'm new to the area and can't even get on the computer at the library! But I'm not afraid of the registry if there is a way to remove it all from there. I have the time to work on it just need to know what to do!

I got it figured out!! This may help you Major Geeks with some other posts. I had previously had issues getting online and first contacted my ISP, ATTUverse. They first had me uninstall my antivirus software then some other misc. things, nothing they did worked. Four hours on the phone and an in home service call that lasted from 9am till 2pm and included two different techs resulted in them telling me I was going to have to do a system recovery! I then contacted support for IE* and they helped me get IE8 uninstalled and IE7 working. So then I was online! They tried to help me get IE8 reinstalled but it wouldn't download. We worked on it for awhile but I figured I could figure it out on my own and that if I had any more problems I'd contact them again, I was just sick of being on the phone!! Then after researching my problem for a week the AVG for free forum replied to my post and told me to remove/rename "C:\Program files\AVG\AVG8\avgoff2k.dll" and try to download their removal tool, and like magic it worked!! So now I'm going to find out what you guys suggest for total coverage and go download it!
Hope this info may help someone in desperate need!:wave

Thinking back, I believe the problem began after I downloaded AVG's latest update.
