Dr. Watson postmortem debugger is giving me problems

i was thinking about deleting it but when i started reading the existing forums it said not not to

please guys can you help me fixing this problem, it happens every time i try to open a movie file that i downloaded. it also happens if i load a movie file from a USB key. Basically any folder that i open in which movie files are contained will prompt the dr. watson postmortem debugger to open.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    thanks

    Turn off Dr. Watson
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug
    Name: Auto
    Type: REG_DWORD
Use a Value of 0 to disable []It currently has a value of 1[/b]

Here...check out this link...this tells you the step by step instructions.

Keep in mind that editing the registry can be risky, however...I do it all the time. It's just a matter of how confident you are in your PC skills, and/or learning new things about PCS. You can actually mess up the operating system if you make a wrong step, but if you are very careful in reading and following the instructions THOROUGHLY...then you should be ok. Many things are spelled closely identical, so don't just glance and try to blow through it as quickly as possible.

    oops, rogvalcox forgot the link.
    1. Start/run and type in regedit and hit enter.
    2. Find HKEY_Local_Machine and click the plus sign in front
    3. Find software, expand by clicking the plus sign
    4. Then Microsoft, then Windows NT, then CurrentVersion and last AeDebug
    5. When you click on AeDebug, in the right pane you will see a few items and things aside of each; right click auto and select modify
    6. In the box that pops up, change the 1 to a 0 and click okay

That's it. You can close the registry editor.

I usually write down thew changes I make. So if you want to turn Dr.Watson back on, you'd do the same thing but then change the 0 back to a 1 to turn it on again.

Nah, I copied and pasted from another site and the directions weren't that obvious.
It would have been silly to not ask and do some damage to the registry!
