Maybe someone on the boards has had some experience with the program you mentioned, but I'm not familiar with it. I would, however, like to ask a few questions in the hopes that it helps everyone else help you more efficiently. What is the program used for? Did you download it from the internet? Maybe you should try re-downloading it and re-installing it. Have you looked around in the program's working directory? (i.e. where ever you've installed it). If you've downloaded this program from the internet, it seems strange that it would include an out-of-date .dll file. Try re-downloading or re-installing if you haven't already.

Hi, Always, and welcome to MajorGeeks!

I am familiar with Dragon Naturally Speaking, so I'll sorta take over here from my colleague.

First, do you have the CD for DNS V5? Or did you download it from the Net?

Second, what version of Windows are you using? Have you updated it with Windows Update, so that you have all of the latest versions of all of the system files, including the speech recognition files?

Third, have you paid for DNS V5, or are you just trying a trial version?

Fourth, do you have a previous version of DNS (DNS V4 or V3) installed? If so, is it working well?

Answer those questions and we'll take it from there.

It sounds like DNS V5 requires a newer version of Windows than the one you're using, or at least a newer version of Windows Speech Recognition software. You may have to upgrade to a newer version of Windows, or at least update your system files at Windows Update.

Stay in touch here, and we'll try to help you out.

    Always,

I've just spent an hour or so hunting for a speech.dll file or another solution to your problem, and I've found nothing except that DNS is in version 7 (that's SEVEN) now, and even the developer has nothing in its knowledge base about speech.dll.

Your best bet, if you're serious about this and actually NEED this program, is to go to the DNS developer's site
    HERE (CLICK)
and contact tech support, or download the version 7 trialware. Uninstall and delete the old version before you try installing the new version. Since your version isn't registered, it won't upgrade with the new version.

Another route might be to write to one of the people in this list:
    LIST HERE
Somebody there will have the file and will send it to you as an attachment. Put it in the same folder your DNS main files are in, reboot, and then try opening DNS again.

Good luck. Sorry I couldn't do better.
