dragon's den-mother

we have a great tv show in the states, "shark tank", which is a 4th generation knockoff: japanese money tiger -> UK dragon's den -> canada dragon's den -> US shark tank.

well, i finally got a chance to see the UK version. bit of a different style, but equally fun once you get used to the change in scenery. unfortunately, the whole thing is ruined by this goofy-looking crosseyed presenter who pops up between segments, doing exit interviews, etc. this is one of those rare occasions where a wacked-out stand-up comic is NOT a good fit as host!

...so imagine my surprise to look up his bio and find "economist", "journalist", "harvard", "oxford", yadda yadda. geesh. i hate to judge a book by its cover, but how does one listen to ANYTHING he says -- i feel like i'm watching sid caesar the entire time he's talking!!**

i'd like some feedback from brits here -- is this guy (evan davis) as respected as his CV warrants? or do you yourselves also think "what a goofy-looking crosseyed bozo that show has!" ??

oh, and before i set off everyone's nationalist instincts, let me just state that i don't particularly like the AMERICAN on there either. man, that is one DULL yank!

nobody here ever heard of this show? or this guy?
