i have never shoplifted in my life. however, when i'm in a fast-food resto, i do often sneak a soda from the dispenser under guise of getting (free) ice and/or water. am i going to hell?

is there a term for this? seems the kind of thing would have heavy slang usage.

RELATED PLOY: buffet items into pockets.

i don't do this much b/c it's such a mess, but i know ppl who get a whole nother meal to go doing this.

again, any slangy term out there?

Totally agree with Eldon, unless your fast-food restaurant offers FREE refills ----- many do.

Man, for me, I'd HATE to land in hell for stealing soda. I'd like to think you have more ambition than that! If you steal, be the thief that people will talk about! Thinking about it, "thief" is an ugly word. You might prefer using "liberator" instead.

reddit survey showed like 80% of ppl do this.

assume it's closer to 99% in the HS/college age bracket.

Yep, stealing is stealing. The fine/outcome depends on the worth...it is still an offence.

so i assume none of the oh-so-pious posters here has ever gotten a parking ticket...?

No one can accuse me of being "oh-so-pious":p Got my share of parking tickets, speeding tickets too!

Yes, breaking the law speeding is a different type of law. And yes, depending on type of speeding fine, e.g. there's reckless driving causing endangerment; speeding in excess to speed limit and comparisons of exceeding a 40km zone by say 5km over 40km limit, compared to speeding in excess at 100km in an 40km zone which can cause endangerment to other drivers/pedestrians.

Theft is a crime, and penalties vary on the type and level of theft. Same as speeding example.

A bank robber's crime would incur a greater penalty to someone stealing a candy bar.

But it is still theft, a different level, incurring a lesser penalty if caught for a candy bar, and penalty would vary may be a "Caution" if a first offender to strict penalty by a repeat offender. Depends on what law and how the law is broken. Mental condition will come into the equation as well. There are variants to consider. A theft is still a theft, just varies by degree of type.

wasn't directed specifically at you. just surprised at the general tone of replies here. has no one ever downloaded a t0rr3nt either? cracked an app? hacked free long-distance??

sure, drinklifting is theft, but it's theft from an entity which more-or-less tolerates it for PR reasons. that makes it a whole lot better than stealing mp3s or free cable from extremely unwilling parties (RIAA, anyone?), imho.

Totally agree. Faraday is lucky if not yet caught. And such posting downrates this Forum if anything positive in response is placed.

@ Faraday: Stealing is stealing and petty theft is still breaking the law.

Not worth spoiling one’s status and record with such a petty crime, or any type of crime for that matter. A police record will show when a job check is done. So, is risk of reputation worth putting the potential loss of a job position worth it?

    I reckon enough said.

and, if you'll recall, i was really just asking for the CURRENT TERM (slang) for it!!!!

u know, like "card humping"? i'm so old young'uns don't even know what that means! so i imagine "drinklifting" would fare the same. surely there is a better/recent term for this?

(on which note, what does "get a bag, ho" mean? even rap genius letting me down here! "take him to the cleaners"?)

Be interesting to see who responds...'though take into account types of parking tickets...some with minor fines, then those which may be hazardous/dangerous situations.

    Circumstances also to be considered.

Last night I had to illegally park at a no parking at anytime type of sign because it was the safest, right off the main highway spot I could find upon seeing my Alternator red light appearing. Still had over 70km to travel home, and decided to stop, park, call our NRMA Road Service to get it checked. I wasn't going to risk a breakdown on a Friday night in a main arterial road. If Coppers had come along, my reason for parking there could have been justified, and if I had some narky cop book me anyway, I would have taken the matter to Court, because I reckon I did the safest thing, rather than break down in heavy main road traffic on a Friday night.

Had I no real reason and just parked for convenience, that would have been a different matter.

NRMA towed the car and I'm booking it in for repair Monday.

    A post can't be deleted.
It will create confusion if a member deletes a post after a reply has been posted.

  40. K Faraday

    K Faraday Private First Class

true that, altho you'll cause just as much confusion (more?) blanking it out or changing it to a smiley face or w/e other method we're supposed to use to correct it.

on other boards, i oft change the contents to the one line "mispost -- pls delete"; is that done here?

Not sure but it's worth a try.
Just ensure it's done before someone replies.
