Need help on this badly, I have spent days trying to fix it and have gotten nowhere. I have an older laptop that was running on the slow side so i ran the Paretologic PC Health advisor program and ever since then i have NO sound. I am getting the error message "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" I have uninstalled the driver and rebooted (didn't work) I found my original driver disk and used that to reinstall and restarted (didn't work) I ran a diagnostics and the speakers do still work so it has to be a driver issue right??
any thoughts on what i can do? I have everything important backed up so if needed i could do a clean sweep and start over but not even sure if that will work.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505 (if that is needed)
    Thank you!!!!

Oh and the actual name of the bad audio device is SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, bebo1999.

What operating system version and Service Pack # are you running, and what's your Dell Service Tag #? We really need that info to make valid recommendations, but here are a couple of quickies to try:

    1. Check your Services list, make sure the Windows Audio service is running.

    2. Try this Microsoft fix.

    3. If those don't work, you might also try uninstalling any audio drivers, then reinstalling any chipset drivers your disk contains, reboot, and then reinstall the audio drivers.

Thanks for your reply, My service tag is 976nw91 and have service pack 3,
    step 2 didn't work.
And i have uninstalled/reinstalled two of the audio devices (the one that had a yellow ! i've done about 10 times.) Now the yellow mark is gone and windows is telling me its working properly but then still says i have no audio device. Do i need to delete all the devices under sound hardware? there is about 6 of em.
The little sound symbol is also gone from my system tray. Its like the sound was deleted off my system??? But again i know my speakers are still working because i did the reboot with a diagnostics cd and it played music from all the speakers.

Hi, I have just had the same problem with a dell inspiron 1300, and also with the wireless manger.

the fix that i did for the sound issue was to download and install driversweeper..

    http://majorgeeks.com/Driver_Sweeper_d6171.html

select your audio/sound then click analyze then clean (click clean again after initial clean as this makes sure there is no residual leftovers)
download and install your sound driver from here..

OR you could do a simple restore to an earlier date when the sound issue was not there!!!!

    Hi,
Since the restore did not work will you please complete the other fix that i gave you.Just a little hint...create a restore point (just in case you delete something by mistake!!)and run the driver sweeper in safemode.

Tried the other fix and came up with an error message, said it was part of a 3pack and wanted me to open the rest of the files?? i downloaded all 3 drivers and they all came up with the same error. Not really sure if the page is missing the other parts or its just my pc being stupid. I appreciate all the help but starting to think this thing is on the way out. just got the blue screen while doing a restart.. think im just going to get a new one and use this as a junk puter...
