driver download problems

Just some general questions that will help.


Which Windows version you using?

Were did you download the drivers from?

Did the drivers come in a zip file with no installer setup.exe?


if the second question is yes then what you may have to do is to manually install these drivers, so first unzip the file downloaded, then these instrustions are for Xp but should not be too different to that of Win98/ME


Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

On the Device Manager tab, double-click the "hardware device that needs the drivers, in your case the Sound" and then rightclick Properties.

On the Driver tab, click Update Driver, and then click Next > Select "install for a list or specific location" this time and click next > check "include this location in search" and Click the browse button and go to the directory where you saved your new driver > click next and the wizard will attempt to install the driver.

 

Did you unzip the file you downloaded, as the driver .inf will not install or be picked up by the driver wizard if not?


In the file how many files are their, are they these?

Follow the instructions again to locate the folder where those three files are, double click it and you should only see one file the CMedia.inf click that then next.


Bare in mind C-Media never released a driver for XP on this chipset, the one all these sites are saying is for XP is for Win2000 which in many case the driver will install on XP.
