Hi, all! Picked up a CAT5e to USB adapter to direct connect an XP/Pro SP3 box to our Meridian switch; XP wants a driver for it, but the Sabrent website says no driver required! I don't believe this is a Prolific chip (no imprint on it), so I'm wondering if there's a generic driver out there that'll help me... Downloaded DriverDetective but can't install it just now (machine in use).

    Any thoughts? Any suggestions welcome...

    Hi

Strange one as the maker says its plug n play, when you plug the cable in does Windows popup a message saying installing new hardware?

With the cable not plugged in goto Device Manager and open up the USB Controller branch and then lug in the cable and if it Dev MGR doesnt auto refresh, click refresh and is a new USB device picked up and does it have a yellow ! mark, if so whats its name?

Double click it and then choose the Driver tab and then update driver.

Also when you get a chance reboot and then plug it in from a fresh reboot, any difference?

Have you contacted the makers support to check if they have a solution as if you have this issue likelhood is others have and they maye have a solution.
