Hey there, I wanted to try out a new copy of vista and forgot to backup my drivers and relied on Uniblue DriverScanner, hoping that it would find all the right drivers for me. I don't currently have any exclamtion points in my device manager, but my sound is still not working.

I can't access the Volume Mixer when I right click the icon in the taskbar, but when I goto Playback Devices it says "RealTek HDMI Output" Not Plugged in. I don't understand what's going on? I've also attatched a summary from everest.

    Hi

At times these driver scanners do not choose the right drivers for you, as OEM makers such as HP as in your PC in an A6000n custom spec the audio chip and drivers, so would be tempted to uninstall the Audio driver you have now and re-install the Chipset driver first and then reboot and then install the Audio driver from HP below

Both Chipset (chipset drivers are part of the Nvidia Graphics driver) and Audio drivers are listed in this link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk&lang=en&product=3377269

    So Chipset and Graphics here

    Audio here

I tried to open the chipset drivers and an error comes up saying "Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. Update has been cancelled. (9996)"

Should I try to find anouther set of chipset drivers? Or any ideas on why I would get that error message?

Ok, so the new link for the chipset drivers worked and I installed them. I downloaded the audio drivers again and installed them, rebooted, and it's still the same audio drivers that were there before...

So, this is what is happening.. I bought the Radeon 2400HD Pro, installed it & drivers, and the card works fine, video-wise.. But it overrides my onboard audio and can't get around it. In my device manager, the only audio related driver is "ATI HDMI Audio". The onboard is "Realtek AC’97 Audio" which isn't displayed anywhere..

So I removed the card, booted back up, and the onboard audio works fine, but when I put the card back in, it overrides again... I can't find a way to disable it so it stops overriding my onboard audio...

This is the first time you mentioned an ATI video card, and we've been linking you to nVidia drivers. This can lead to some conflicts and obviously some driver problems. This is why we strongly recommend that first-time Driver Forum posters read this sticky before posting. It's the first post, and it's called "TO: everyone seeking driver help". It describes what should be included in your first post so we can save time, avoid problems, and so we know EXACTLY what's involved. OK- enough of the rant. ;)

Uninstall your video drivers. If you installed the nVidia video drivers I linked to above, uninstall those too. Restart the PC. Download and install this driver for 32bit Vista, or this driver for 64bit Vista. If you could tell us if you have 32bit or 64bit Vista, it would avoid us having to include 2 drivers each time. After the driver is installed, restart the PC. If that doesn't fix the problem, you may have to go to the Device Manager and manually 'force' the install of the ATI HDMI driver. You'd point it to the ATI driver folder (in XP, I think it's in C:\Program Files; in Vista it should be similar) and it once you've pointed it to the right folder, it should pick it up and install it.

Ok, sorry for confusion... I'm still a little amatuer to this apparently.. lol

So, I reformatted with a fresh copy of Vista Ultimate 32bit. I'm currently downloading all the Windows updates. Everything seems to be working fine and there are no yellow exclamation points in the device manager. My sound is working like it should, but now I'm afraid that when I install my video card again, it will override my integrated audio, as the Radeon 2400 Pro has HDMI 5.1 surround. The thing is that I'm not hooking my computer up to a TV or anything, I just want better graphics for gaming.

Is there a way to install the graphics card without having it override my integrated audio? I just want to use the headphone jacks (one in the back and one in the front of the tower) that came with the computer, not the HDMI output...

I hope I made better sense this time... Again, sorry for sounding like a rookie..

Well after hours and hours of searching for a solution to my dilema I finally found an answer. In BIOS, the option for onboard audio is set to 'auto' by default and it's as simple as changing it to 'enabled'. Jeez.. :cool
