I am playing around with a laptop and will be reformatting the HD and installing windows xp pro. I was wondering if there is some kind of program that you can run and it will tell you the important drivers (sound, video etc.)you will need to install?

    Thanks for your time

I generally download and keep a set of current drivers in case of a re-install, their are a few ways to do this, my personal pref is to manually list the drivers I need and do to the Computer makers site in your case whoever made the laptop and they will have listed all the drivers you'll need or in the case of a desktop the motherboard maker and various other hardware companies eg. Nvidia or Ati in the case of graphic cards to Realtek for sound/network etc

Your best bet is to goto the maker of your laptop's website and download all the latest drivers, pop them on CD for after the XP install as they will be the most reliable.

you can also use these two apps to list hardware
