Driver SF & GTA IV crash...

Ok so this crash has been recurring for me, it started in GTA IV, I think it happened in FIA WRC 2010 (can't remember that one so well), but it's come back in Driver San Francisco. The crash happens when... well you crash into something, weather it be a wall or another car, seems to me to crash either as the particle effects are called for or just as they start.

The question is, is that a reason for a crash? Is it even the problem? If not what what links these 2 games that causes them both to crash at exactly the same point? Ok that's several questions, but no matter why it happens I need it fixing.

I know it's not a random crash because it doesn't happen at rigid times (after 5 mins, after 15 mins etc.) I can drive around for ages (carefully) in both games, but as soon as I crash, the game does :cry

Need any hardware or software specs? I'd be happy to provide as much detail as I can.
