I am updating drivers on my sons computer. I have seen some programs that will detect hardware and current driver versions and let you know if they need to be updated. Are these any good and if so which one should I use?

If your having some specific issues with your computer then upgrade what you need to resolve the problem such as upgrading video drivers to support a specific game or something but if things are working well, there is no need to upgrade drivers. Drivers simply allow your computer to access and/or control devices on the computer.

If and when these programs (assumed hosted by sites) ask for money stear well clear (I've seen some very questionable sites out there!!!). I'm sure they will constantly find more and more wonderful drivers, BIOS, Frimware etc for sys (for a small nominal fee, LOL). Stear well clear!!

Windows supplies many off your drivers otherwise you can go to the products websites and search there.

Try EVEREST Home from this site will do the same thing and provide links to the hardwares site (sometimes outdated though):
