Hey Guys, I just reformatted a pc and now I cant find the multimedia audio driver anywhere, I also have put a graphics card into the computer too but I dont think the drivers are the right one, or if infact the graphics card is even compatible, I have got an everest report from the computer if its any use.
Any help would be muuuuuuch appreciated.
    Shanna. :)

    Greetings, Blowyamind.

Yes - an Everest report would help. ;)

In the meantime, what's the make and model # of the computer, and what operating system version and Service Pack # are you using?

    Hi Shanna

Yep the Everest report will be great as it hightlights the make and model of your PC or Motherboard, do run it as written below and attach the log as instructed.

I unzipped the SIS s7012 file, forgive me for sounding thick but now what do I do with it? lol.

If you've unzipped/extracted the files, run the 'Setup.exe', see if it's self-installing. If not, let us know and we'll try a different approach.

@hrlow2: just saw that - good catch. Weird.

7MB is nowhere near enough to handle the OS.
And C is usually where the OS gets installed. Unless I've went senile.

What should I do regarding the partitions the? will this affect the performance of the computer? Thanx:)

ok I may have just got the answer to that, I went to run the setup.exe and it says that there isnt enough space, do u think I will need to reformat again and do something about the partition?

I'm guessing your Windows is installed on D: partition and the setup.exe is trying to install the files to C: partition (the usual Windows partition).

The question is what is on C:. A 7mb partition would normally be a manufacturer (Packard Bell) diagnostic partition that would be hidden unless there was a problem.

Can you get a listing of the files on C: drive?

If u tell me what to do then I shall try?

You should be able to open the drive in My Computer. There can't be many files on that small a drive.

I'm trying to figure out if it is worth saving. Reformatting and doing a fresh install of XP might be the best solution. Since you haven't put much on your recent install it wouldn't be that difficult. You would then have XP on the default C: partition which just makes things simpler when certain programs are written to expect Windows to be on C:.

Just open the C: drive in My Computer and let us know what files you see then we can figure out it you should keep the partition.

ok there is 1 folder on the partition and its a drivers folder, a Realtek semiconductor Corp driver?

Do you have a Windows disk to reinstall with?

    May be a workaround.
Look on the other partition and see if your Windows folder is there.

  24. Blowyamind

    Blowyamind Private E-2

yep the windows folder is on the d drive. :)

  25. hrlow2

    Try to rename the partitions.
Right click on C, choose rename. Make it something else that is not being used.
Then go to D and do the same thing, only naming it C.
May do the trick, but if not, no worse than now.

  26. Blowyamind

    Blowyamind Private E-2

    Ive done that :)

Tempted to agree with Sach2 about a reformat and reinstall.
The renaming idea was hopefully to save you the time and effort.

Agreed with the other guys about the format - may as well get it right.

If you do decide to start from scratch, you might try deleting all the partitions [C: and D:], then re-creating one partition [C:] with all available space, and then formatting to NTFS.

Be sure to do the full, not the quick one.
Takes a bit longer but better.

I think the matrox drivers are ok, it doesnt seem to show as being an issue in the device manager, its the multimedia audio controller thats the problem now :'(

    Thanks.

I'm wondering if this board is actually using AC97 audio - the Gigabyte site I'm using is somewhat confusing.

Why not try the RealTek AC97, just for s&g - it won't hurt anything.

And let there be sound - good job. Way to hang in there through the various hoops you had to jump through.

Now: why can't you play games?

  42. Blowyamind

    Blowyamind Private E-2

Thanks again :) Right the games, when I install a game I launch it then it brings up an error box saying could not find any compatible direct3d devices ? then it terminates the process. Any ideas? :(

Your report shows that you're running DirectX 9.0c, so that should be sufficient as long as the game isn't calling for something higher. What game are you trying, and does this happen with other games?

    Good morning.

The RealTek AC97 is working fine for me. If you're still not seeing it, try dumping your Temp Internet Files cache(s) and trying again.

If that doesn't work, let me know - I'll download the file and host it temporarily so you can grab it.

    http://www.sis.com/download/

step1.) enter your OS(xp)> step2.) select audio driver> step3.)select sis7012> you will then be taken to the download page, follow instructins on how to install, remembering you must reboot your system for the changes to take affect.
