    Hello Everyone!,

This is my first thread here at majorgeeks. Here's my problem: I have an emachine pc w3609 with these specs. I tried downgrading it to Windows XP SP2, yet ran into two major problems.

    1. Sound will not play and
    2. My DSL is not being detected

I am very inexperienced when it comes to drivers. I'm not sure if the order in which i installed the drivers is the problem, or the particular versions, etc...

I hope to use the computer for online browsing purposes and playing World of Warcraft, if that is possible.

Anyways, I appreciate any feedback or helpful advice that is given. Thanks!

Just checked on the emachine website and only could find the drivers for Windows Vista. Give us some more info on the LAN and Audio on your motherboard like who it is made by.

That's no problem and you're welcome.:)
Did you also install the network driver that I posted? It is supposed to be self installing. Just double click on it and an install wizard should run. Also, did you shut down and re-start your PC after the install?
If you did, I may not have got the right one or it didn't install correctly. I'll go re-look to make sure it was the proper one.

I think I see the the problem I supplied the ethernet driver.
This is the PCI modem driver:
    http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T-Series&model=T3410

It is for an XP eMachine with the same modem. Click downloads, then scroll down to Modem and click download.

    Installation
    1. Download the file to the desktop.
    2. On the desktop, double-click the Modem7230000.exe file. The needed files expand to the C:\Cabs\Modem7230000 folder.
    3. From the Start menu, click Run.
    4. In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\Modem7230000\HXFSetup.exe. Click OK.
    5. The PCI SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP driver is installed.

Okay, I downloaded and installed the below PCI Modem driver that musksnipe provided. Originally there were 2 big yellow question mark icons w/ very tiny exclamation marks in the lower right corners. After installing the above mentioned driver, the PCI Simple Communicatons Controllers is the only one that remains with a yellow icon.

I clicked under the properties for the PCI Simple Com. Controller and the device status said: Code 28.

Here are some observations after the installation:

    - In the system tray near the time, there are two adjacent computer icons w/
a tiny exclamation mark (!), and

    - Holding the cursor over this icon says: 'Local Area Connection 2' and 'Limited or No Connectivity'

My internet type is ADSL and I'm using an ADSL Bridge Modem.

I am very inexperienced w/ drivers and compatibility, so these are just some thoughts I had. Since I'll be connected via ADSL should the solution be related to an ethernet driver instead of modem? or could there have been a 'problem' with the order in which the drivers were instead?

Anyway, I look forward to any further advice or solutions. Once again, I'd like to thank musksnipe for his helpful replies. Thank-you for your time.

Oh... if there is any more information needed, please let me know and I will post it immediately.

Sorry, I thought the last driver drove both the modem and controller. Usually, I work from a system report generated by Everest or PcWizard but I thought there was enough info at the eMachine site.
This is a generic driver for the PCI Simple Communications Controller. (the publisher is MS) As always, set a restore point then install the driver.

If that doesn't work, try removing the device from Device Manager and using the Add New Hardware wizard to redetect it.

On the DSL issue, I don't have a clue.

PCI Simple Communication Controller is usually a dial-up modem, and in this case, it should have no bearing on your DSL connectivity. In your Device Manager, click the plus sign next to Network Adapters and post what it says. Also, if you could run something like PC Wizard or Everest or Unknown Devices (all these are free downloads here at MajorGeeks) and look thru the hardware device lists, noting what is shown for network adapters or controllers, and post that info also. We'll try to get you the correct drivers, and if that doesn't do it, we'll start digging into Windows.

@dlb The OP needs XP drivers, the last I supplied should clear his device manager of needed drivers. I plan to have him post in networking once this last driver is installed.

Everything is fine and up and running. As far as the internet is concerned. The network drivers and everything was fine. I called up my ISP and they did something. I am not sure what exactly they did, but within minutes I was online.

Thank you for all your help.
