Dropped Wifi in hotel

Hello,

I'm on the road and trying to use Skype in my hotel room instead of racking up phone bills. The problem is that if I use either voice and video or just voice, I lose my connection to the local network.

Since the people at the front desk have no idea how to solve this, I was hoping someone here might be able to throw me some ideas. I don't believe it's a bandwidth issue, since I can download torrent files no problem.

And before someone gives this idea: There is no wired option. If so, I'd be all over it!

Ask them who maintains the wifi in the hotel. Most do not even know anymore, especially if they have had it set up for quite some time. Also, the problem with most hotels & motels wifi, it is not any better than being on 56k dialup.

 

I'm pretty sure it's the way that my computer is connecting to their network, not the connection speed. I have an iPad 2 that I am using with Skype for iPad as well, and the connection is great. The only problem is that I have to hold the iPad while I'm chatting. Not ideal!

 

You can get the holders with the keypads for the iPads now, and try that.

 

Yep, but I'd like to have a solution for the actual problem. I guess I'm neurotic like that!

 

Solution is to not use hotel wifi.
