Want to relocate my DSL from one room to another. Can you just buy DSL filters and plug them in and make it work or do I need hard wire a connection into that room?

Do you have phone points to the same number in that room? if yes then just plug in the filter.

Just check with ISP to make sure?

Thats what I did with mine, phone in one room, DSL and phone in other on same Number, better option if i'd thought of it at time would have been wireless, still may go that way as it would remove the extention cable ( albiet it not long only 5 feet )

In the old days, an install tech would be sent out and a whole-house filter would be installed outside your house. A dedicated, unfiltered line would then be run to your PC. These days, to lower costs and be more competitive, a self-install kit is typically sent out that includes filters to be placed at each jack where a phone is to be used, since the DSL signal appears at every jack-- you simply don't filter the one you plug the DSL modem into.

Well the room my office is currently in, the guy installed a biscuit off the phone jack that was there. I know the put something in the box outside but who knows, and it was years ago. Do I have to buy enough of these for the house or just the rooms where there is DSL and/or a phone?

You should have to put filters just on the jacks that are in use. I did the DSL thing about three years ago and changed the location of my computer, and it worked just fine.

I work for a company that provides dsl and the above is true. If you don't have a single filtered line (ie whats called a nid filture) then you should just be able to move it. If you have a nid filture, (which your isp probably has records of) then no it won't work. The other way to tell if you have a nid filture is do any of the phones in the house have filtures or just the dsl modem. If the other phones require filtures then you probably don't have a nid filture. Hope this helps!
