I'm not sure what subject this would fall on so i'm putting it here. I now have 56k dial up. Thinking about the local dsl provider called Adelphia. But i currently have DishNetwork not cable. Can i still get Adelphia dsl while having a satellite dish provider? The room in which the computer is in has a cable outlet with a cable shoved up inside. I assume that the cable is connected to a box somewhere outside, right? Then how does my puter know to go to dsl and not peoplepc? I also asume that the dsl modem takes a cable in one side and the other side is a bigger than normal phone plug that goes to my computer. I guess the going rate right now for dsl is $25-$45.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but you'd need a network adapter installed in your pc if you don't already have one (thats what your DSL modem will plug into) and it will be using your phone line, so as long as you have working dial tone to a jack in that room you should be fine. Usually filters will have to be installed on other jacks in your house as well and are generally provided by whoever you're ordering the DSL service through. Satellite television shouldn't pose any problem. If you were thinking about cable internet, I don't know how things work in your area, but where I am I can get it without having cable television service, but the per month cost is higher. Hope this answered something!

Yes you can get DSL while have directTv,I do. you will just have to get a DSL modem fairly small similar to a router, you phone line will plug into the back of the modem(little jack RJ-11) and the big jack (RJ-45 or lan/network cable) will plug into you computers NIC. Faily cheeper than cable, just as fast

Wait a minute. I thought it uses the cable outlet on the wall. It uses the same outlet as the phone? Then where did dsl cable come from?

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a form of high-speed internet service offered by your phone company, while cable internet service uses the coaxial cable that you use to get cable TV service. Here's a more detailed explanation: DSL vs. Cable
