    I was wondering if anyone could help me help my friend. He has a Westell Model 220 DSL modem/router -- it has the following ports;

    LINE1 USB ETHERNET

    Currently LINE1 is connected to the PC and ETHERNET is connected to the street.

    He wants to make it so that he has wireless capability in the house. I figured there were two ways to this; 1- perhaps he can get a USB wireless adapter and the modem/router can act as a wireless router -- according to verizon they said its not a "true" router. I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and its great. can I get one of these for him and hook it up the same way that I have? I have cable modem - so I have the cable modem into mymodem and then the modem to the router and im wireless!

    any help would be great!!
    THANKS!!

    I'm no expert but it looks to me that this is just a modem without wireless capability. Did Verizon provide the 2200?

    I think he should call Verizon and tell them he needs to have wireless ability in his house. When they tell him he can buy a wireless router for X number of dollars he should tell them he thinks they should provide the new router as part of the service. Tell them that he will be calling the cable company to see if they will provide a wireless router if he switches over to them for internet. He should remember to say Thank you.

    In a day or two call the Verizon disconnect/retention number and see if they will provide the router for free. They have the authority to give him one for free if they want to keep his business. Verizon replaced my 2 year old dead router for free but I was willing to switch to cable (it just made me mad that they wanted me to pay for it but were offering a free FIOS router if I switched). It may work or it may not. He can always agree to buy the new router from them rather than switching providers.

    **When I was looking around I didn't find any routers in the stores that were cheaper than Verizon's prices. And if he has to buy one at least they will give him unlimited phone support.

    I hope someone more experienced may be able to answer your specific connection questions. :)

    Option 1:

    Buy a Wireless Router to put behind the Verizon Router. (Will require you to call Verizon Tech Support for instructions on setup).

    Option 2:

    Call Verizon and ask for the DSL Wireless Router (Will require a monthly cost).

    I have Verizon DSL with a Westell 6100 modem, and I bought a Belkin wireless router from Walmart. The CD that came with the Belkin provided all the set up I needed, and it hasn't added anything to my bill. Works fine, except the Verizon DSL service disconnects and reconnects occasionally, but I believe that is Verizon's problem.
