    Hi!

I've just installed two versions of XP Pro to dual boot on my note book, one being fully featured for productivity and the other stripped way back for gaming.

Both OSes come up as XP Professional, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I'd go about renaming the gaming OS.

    Cheers in Adv,
    Suneater

    Hi ya suneater...
    Welcome to Major Geeks.

    I duel boot myself.
    XP pro and 98SE
But on the selection screen I have:
    Microshaft Winblows XPee
    Microshaft Winblows 98SE

Here is how you do as you ask...
Right click "My Computer" then select "Properties".
    Click the "Advanced" tab.
In the "Startup and Recovery" section click the "Settings" button.
    In the new window...
Look for "To edit the startup options file manually, click Edit"
    So click the Edit button.
You'll see a Notepad document pop up witch is the edit option for the boot.ini file.
In the text... anything there in quotes is what you would see in the startup selection screen.
    EX: "Microsoft Windows XP Pro"
    You'll see two there.
Within those quotes change the text to anything you wish and then "Save as..." the name will already be "boot.ini".
Click the save button. And you will want to overwrite the old file.
    Close everything off and reboot.
You'll see your new OS selection screen.

You can shortcut all of this by simply using Notepad to edit the "boot.ini" file if you wish.
You'll find it in the root directory. "C:".
Be sure you have the ability to read file extensions and hidden files set though.
