Dual Boot Quesiton

Sooooo........ My computer is currently duel booted with Win7 and XP 64bit. XP was the first OS installed, followed by Win 7. What I want to do is remove XP entirely... Is this possible without reinstalling everything? The machine is imaged and have the following images...

*Upon installing XP the machine got imaged (system and seperate partition for programs).
*Upon installing Win 7 the machine got re-imaged. What was imaged was the original XP partition (because I think Win7 put some files on that partition), plus the new Win7 partition.

My guess is if I restore the win7 image alone to a primary boot/active partition it still wouldn't work since the files that are stored on the XP partition would be missing... am I wrong in that assumption? What's the best way to go about this without having to reinstall everything.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

I think you are right, but if you then boot to your Win 7 DVD it should repair the boot sector for you. As long as you have restorable images that is worth a shot.

 

Looking back at what I did a couple of years ago, you might need to copy the file bootmgr and the /BOOT folder from XP to the Win 7 partition first. If you then use a bootable partition manager to remove the XP partition and to set the Win 7 partition Active it should then boot. If it still doesn't boot then the procedure I posted above should fix it.

I used Acronis Disk Director for this. I think you may need something equivalent.
