I recently put together a new rig, however I have been experienceing difficulties.

    This is my setup

    Intel D 3.4ghz
    2gb corsair ram ddr2
    Intel D945PVS Motherboard
    BFG Nvidia Geforce 7900GS OC
    2 Maxtor Hard Drives
    Hard Drive 1: IDE
    Hard Drive 2: SATA
    Windows XP Professional

My problem: Several cases of sudden shutdown, and lock ups.
I reformated both of my hard drives, reinstalled windows, updated all of the drivers for the motherboard, and updated my bios. It does not matter weather I have sp1 or sp2 installed on windows, both times my system would crash. The crash causes windows to shut down, but It does not shut the computer down. At first I thought it would be a heat problem, however I dont think that is the case here. Installing windows took a long time, and reformatting also took a long time, and therefore that is the reason why I dont think the problem is heat related. The crash occurs usally about 10 - 15 minutes after I launch windows. Somtimes it takes longer. It usually crashes when I am doing something on the computer, like surfing the net or playing a game. I am completly stumped on this one. I have reformated and reinstalled windows 3 times already. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for the time.

The first thing that comes to mind is that your PSU may not be working or enough, although the fact that you say only windows crashes makes me skeptical. Another thing that comes to mind may be bad RAM. Try downloading a RAM diagnostic boot disc and running it.

Your computer should give a BSOD when it crashes.

If ye were to right click on MY Computer, then select properties, then advanced tab, then Settings under "startup and recorery". Then uncheck "automatically restart". Press OK, then OK.

Give us the exact error ye are getting. :)

Did what you said.. and when it crashed, within a few minutes of start up, it gave me the BOSD.

Besides the link to the dual core patch, what version of XP are ye using. As the service pack level?
