When they say that a dual core processor is 3.0GHz that means each one is 3.0GHz for a total of 6.0GHz, correct?

it has 2 processors on one chip both cores are at 3 gig yes in theory you have 6 gig but you only have 2 x 3 gigs sharing a front side bus. Performance wise yes you will benefit .

Yes but you don't get the full effect of 6GHz, unless your software or games are written to take full advantage of Two cores.

    98% of stuff doesn't. :cry :(

Not available thru' MG unfortunately. :cry I've been using it for quite a while now (thanks Halo) and I think it has improved my 18 month old laptop.

yeah i know, actually 6GHz is too fast for most desktop computers, it may be able to process the data quick, but the speed of the RAM or hard drive will stay the same no matter how fast the processor is so the dual cores really don't make much of a difference, atleast not yet anyway

It's fantastic for the next generation of gaming. Supreme Commander has a proven speed boost with two cores over just one.

alright thanks, what does everyone think about the pentium d?

pentium d is a good chip. I have one in my other box and it does well (pent d 930@3.0 gig)

Nah, go AMD. More stable, more consistent.

both just as good and stability has not been an issue.Ive used both and havent had any problems.

Intel is just as fast, faster with C2D and just as stable. CPUs have not been a stability factor in forever....not for home computing, and when they were an issue, Intel was the way to go. This coming from someone who uses AMD.

Motherboard chipset is a stability factor.

For the record, 2x 3.0ghz does not mean 6ghz. It means two cores, sharing jobs at 3ghz. You would never see a 6ghz performance boost, in any app. Ever.

Oblivion, too, is a multi core aware game.
