Ok, from what I've read, and I've been reading a lot, it's possible to have dual monitors of different resolutions and color quality, different sizes, and run one off AGP and one off PCI. So I decided to do just that with my only second monitor and videocard I just found in storage. Right now for my main monitor, I have an 17" HP Pavilion V50 Monitor attached to an AGP GeForce4 Ti4200. For my second monitor, I have an EMC Proview Em-1428 15" Monitor attached to a S3 Trio64V+ PCI. I've read that it doesn't matter what size monitor and videocard you have as long as the first videocard is good and can handle dual monitors. I am almost certain that the Ti4200 can do dual monitors, because I've googled it up and found some peoples system that use the Ti4200 in that way. I just need help getting my second monitor working.

When I boot up my system, the second monitor goes through the BIOS. When the login screen is about to appear, it switches to my first monitor and the second monitor goes blank. I have the drivers for the monitor and videocard installed. I check my Device Manager and for my S3 Trio64V+ it tells me:

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

Now I can't really disable my first videocard, because it won't let me while I'm logged on. I'm running Windows XP Professional SP1. So what should I do from here?

For anyone that is interested, I'm now using dual monitors, but awkwardly. My first monitor is plugged into the S3 Trio 64v+, yet it says it's plugged into my Ti4200, and my second is plugged into my Ti4200. But since the second monitor is 14 years old, I can't go higher than 800 x 600, but I can only change the resolution on both monitors, I can't change them seperately. Also, when I go to move a window from one screen to the other, I get lag. Also, I tried a game that has to initialize OpenGL to play, and it says that it could initialize it. When I scroll on a website, I get lag aswell. Any help?

I had a similar problem and believe it is because unfortunetly S3 cards have to be the primary card. Im looking for another cheap pci video card now. Can someone else verify this please?

I once had a dual monitor setup with a Nvidia GeForce FX5200 AGP as primary and a Nvidia MX400 PCI card as secondary in XP Home, though I could switch primary and secondary between the two cards. So, in principle it can be done.

Well, I gave up with dual monitors. I want to buy a better video card sometime, even though I don't play any games that require a better video card. The next one I buy will be dual header. One of my friends said to check out a Geforce Fx 5500. He said I can get some kind of DVI converter thing to plug in a second monitor.

I have a INNO3D Tornado Geforce4 MX440 128mb Dual Head 8x AGP Graphics card, Perfect for dual monitor setup, yes you can run different refresh rate & resoulutions. ( It has VGA & DVI heads and also has TV out)
I bought this one new, I have Original box paperwork drivers cd etc.
I could sell it to you.
If your interested, just give me PM.

Does running two monitors use up power/cpu/memory?
