I was doing training on some of my company's products with two new hires a couple of weeks ago, and the subject of stupid questions came up. LOL

I was explaining how SSDs work, how they're very different from a regular spindle drive and what that means for troubleshooting, and so on, and I wanted to encourage them to ask for clarification, or to ask any questions they had without being worried that they'd look stupid. Basically, I was trying to make sure they felt comfortable asking about even "obvious" things when one of them joked, "So there are no stupid questions then?"

My reply was, "There are lots of stupid questions. On the top of the list would be 'Should I drink gas straight from the pump or put it in a glass first?', or 'Should I run blindfolded into traffic?', or 'Should I tell Inigo Montoya that I'm the one who killed his father?'. Those are stupid questions."

My non-stupid trainees thought that was funny, and felt much more comfortable asking questions afterward, which was the whole point.
