Instead of rewriting the question, I'll just paste the email I got from my daughter.

I need some serious help with my computer. It's very messed up right now. I have plenty of room on my C drive but nothing works properly. It's all VERY slow and constantly crashes (once every 15 minutes about). And it keeps telling me my virtual memory is low. I went to Processes under windows task manager (control alt delete), and under CPU usage, System Idle Process is at 00, while dumprep.exe (whatever that is....) is at 50 % and another dumprep.exe is at 50%. Now, I know that's not right but I don't know how to fix it. Should I click on them and "end process" or is that a bad thing?

    She looked here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899870/en-us

and tried both methods. But the files they said to delete were not there.

    Any ideas?

@Tim: I tried to do it in red, but that was even worse. Thanks for the tip, I'll get her to try it.

@ Mat: Yes, she has zonealarm installed. Is that an issue?

Maybe. I put you some links below that might help, I didn't have time to really read thru all of them and I couldn't tell if they are referring to the free or paid versions. Hope it helps. :)

Either way, uninstalling and reinstalling or updating may solve the problem.

So, after reading the links, it looks like she has to disable Zone alarm and get a new freeware firewall.

She can't uninstall ZA without going into the registry and that's not an option. My computer has been down for months and I can't even remember what Zone Alarm looks like. (I'm currently on a work laptop in a hotel. No admin access, and no Zone Alarm if I could).

What about just switching ZA off and using the windows firewall?

    Or any other freeware firewall...?

Has she tried temporarily disabling ZoneAlarm and see if that solves the problem?

She can try Sygate Personal Firewall http://www.majorgeeks.com/Sygate_Personal_Firewall_Free_d3356.html

I don't know if she might experience problems using another firewall and not uninstalling ZoneAlarm, might cause conflicts even when disabled.
