This is what we woke up to this morning here on the New South Wales coast.A dust storm that has spread across the east coast originating from south Australia and the Northern territory.this has closed Sydney airport and shut down all ferry services on Sydney harbor.:confused :confused :confused

Pretty to look at like this.
I'm positive it looks different in person.
How do you keep it out of your sandwichs?

when we first woke up we thought it was a bush fire as that is what it looks like this type of thing is very unusual for coastal areas.went out side to go down the shops got dust in my eyes up my nose and in the throat.i have never seen anything like this here and my mother who is in her mid 60's has never seen it like this either.

How do you wear contacts? Keep your hair clean? Keep your car from losing all the paint sheen?

Ew. We get dusts storms here sometimes, though not nearly as bad... I hate our minor ones. I don't want to imagine yours.

it's not a coarse dust it like talcum powder me not silly my car is parked in the garage but my neighbors cars are covered in this fine brownish red dust.there goes our water supply we just came down from Level 5 restrictions to level 3 but once every body finishes washing there cars and houses down once this is over we will be back to level 5.
i have seen a few sand storms coming off the beaches here but never this sort of dust storm.

Oh, that does look awful, for sure! I have heard it was dry in Aussie, but that goes way beyond dry. Looks to be quite scary, too. Thanks for sharing the pix.

I of course go right to the breathing issue being my lungs are bad.
How are you doing with that?

Seen this on the news and its real bad. Looks like the east coast is copping the wind storms we had on the west coast on Monday. Not nearly as dry here in the west, so we didn't get anything other than storm damage and power outages. The hospitals will be filling up with people with lung complaints. Fine desert dust and human lungs don't mix too well.

well just letting you all know that the sky's are blue again the dust settled around 3 pm yesterday arvo and now we are all cleaning up its amazing where all the dust got into the car still copped it even though it was in the garage but not as bad as the one's that were left out side.phantom the wind was gusting up to 100 kmh and it blew this big branch down out of the gum tree out the front but the most damage was from the dust which is something we are not used to over here on the east coast.thanks for the concern everybody and have a great day.

Good to hear it's over, made headlines here in the US. Must have been horrible to get into a closed garage.
I remember dust storms (not even close to yours) when I was young and being inside with everything shut still was hard to breath and tasted as if you had dirt in your mouth.

Is there a big clean up going on?

Well, it's not exactly over. South Australia is experiencing dust storms, now and the cloud that was in the eastern states has made its way, 2,000 miles across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand.

we had another duster this morning ,it has cleared now and was no where near as severe as the one on the 23rd. darlene1029 the dust storm on the 23rd was the worst we have had in over 70 years, there was one during the 80's that only affected South Australia and Victoria and it to made the shores of NewZealand.they have never affected the entire east coast before.the big clean up is on for this weekend here where i live as they only allowed for the water restrictions to be lifted for today and tomorrow.normally we aren't allowed to wash our house down at all and we are only allowed to bucket wash our cars between certain hours during the day although you can opt to pay to wash your car at a car wash that uses recycled water.
all this is due to a drought we have been locked in for nearly 2 decades out west is the driest it has ever been in recorded history.

Sounds absolutely horrible, I get chocked just imagining it. Good luck on your clean up and hope it's over.
