    Please help,

I just bought a new dvd burner (liteon) and after installing it as the master and my old cd burner as the slave I cannot see the cd burner as a drive in 'my computer'. Shouldnt it be listed there?
Also I cant seem to be able to burn anything on either drive.

Secondly, I also have a jumpdrive hooked into one of my usp ports. It is not showing up in the 'my computer' menu also.

I can see all of them in 'disk manager' though.

running xp, 1.33 ghz, 512 mb ram

Firstly i would go get new drivers then if that fails try swapping the Master/Slave jumper settings not forgetting of course to have them configured correctly on ribbon.

    thanks for the suggestions.
All drivers are updated. Not totally compitent on the ribbon placements. Right now the master is the DVD rw player and it is hooked into the ribbon port that is closest to motherboard Ide2. The slave is the cd rw and it is hooked into the end port of the ribbon. Sound ok to you?

Could you possibly look over this error log created by the software? I have also submitted this to the Tech support at Nero. Both drives play (read) normally, save from disks, etc. Its just when they attemp to write anything I get a communication failure notiification.

    OK,
now I am getting somewhere. Per your suggestions I actually unattached the cd rw drive from the ide cord. This works, my new DVD drive works and I am currently burning.
BUT, I know it is possible to have both. I wonder what I did wrong with my configuration to create the communication problems.
    I know,
check the master - slave setting on both. Then, what is the best way for two drives to be connected to the IDE?

    thank,s

Ok we are getting somwhere now... you appear to have the ribbon misplaced.. The best way is make one master with jumper settings and this is connected to the END of the ribbon, the second will be slave of course(jumper settings) this will connect to the intermediary/middle connector on ribbon and that should sort your problem ..
