    Hello,

I have been wasting dvd+r after dvd+r. I'm getting very upset because I am flushing money down the toilet. Okay well basically this is where I begin...

I just recently bought 100 "TDK" Dvd+r's with 1-16x speed, and 4.7gb space on each. The ones I bought can be seen at this url, except that these on the url are dvd-r's not dvd+r's like the ones I have. But they are still the same kind, and brand:

    Dvd Disc Brand

The big spindle of 100 dvd+r's comes with a tiny little note on the label which says to check out this link:

    Note On Spindle Label

    I have this dvd burner:

    Dvd Burner I Own

Okay now the point is that I have different videos I would like to burn. I have indeed burnt them many times. They burn fine, and play fine on my standalone dvd players hooked up to my tv. Problem is that every disc I burn gets to a certain minute of video where the image just starts skipping and the dvd cannot be controled (ie: stopped), or the image just shakes. What I mean by this is I believe I am getting errors. I do not know what speed I should be burning dvds at. I use DVD+R so remember I use "Clone DVD 2" to burn my dvds. I keep watching the video on my dvds fine, and like I said there is always a point halfway through or near the end where the video just starts to skip, and than I can't watch the rest.

I need to know if I am burning at too fast of a speed, or too slow, and what advice or precations I should take while burning dvd. (ie: closing programs, no screen saver, etc). Maybe it's the blank dvd+r's causing the issue from the url links above because of burning speed. Maybe it's something else. Someone please help me and tell me what the issue could be. By the way I only use "Clone DVD 2" by slysoft software, and that is the only one I will choose to use.

    Thank You

The slower the speed that your burn at...the less likely you are to incur errors that are due to burning too fast. So just burn them at the slowest possible speed.

Also...the more free memory you have the better off you will be when burning. So another words...make sure all unneccesary programs are shut down and don't surf the net or any such while burning the dvd...just let the system set so it can concentrate on the burning task only. Depending on how much memory you have in the system, if you have a bunch of stuff running in the system tray down by the clock, then those apps could be hogging to much memory, so if you don't need it running try disabling some of those programs in the tray, and this will free up more memory.

Also...did this problem occur from day one of using this new spool of disc you bought? If so, there is a chance you have bought defective media/disc. That is not uncommon and it might take a couple or three tries before you find a brand that works. It doesn't mean squat, just buying brand name dvds. trying to find non-defective dvds can be a hassle but once you find some, always by the same disc from the same retailer, if at all possible.

Hmm... Interesting. I see what you mean. & no the problem did not occur since day one. I bought them and burnt data dvds perfectly so I know they work, it has to be an issue with burning dvd video to play on a dvd player. I will try disabling as many programs as I can using "system mechanic", which has a list where you can disable programs that run at start up. I can than re enable them with the same program instead of using msconfig. I will try a burn and let you know how it goes.

    Keep the information comming people!

    Thanx

is that only on the new tdk's? or did that happen before (just trying to clarify)

what is the source of your videos? (file type, etc.) maybe you can just re-encode them to try and fix it.

i just bought this burner so i couldnt say if it is only on tdk discs. i can tell you that when i burn data on these discs they burn fine at 8x speed.

i will try a process of elimination now and try burning at the lowest to the highest and see my results.

    thank you

is it good to defrag, clean reg, internet history, run spybot, and adaware, and virus programs before burning? or does this not even effect the burning process at all?

i always do that thinking it will make it run better.

Alright well I used the program "system mechanic" to disable everything that it had in the list of what could be disabled on startup. I restarted my pc, and burnt the video I have on my pc to the dvd+r and choose 1x speed in the "Clone Dvd" program I was using to burn. Anyway's it burnt successfully, or at least that is what the program said. But when I put the dvd+r in the standalone dvd player on top of my tv set, it still has parts where it skips and all that. When I place the dvd+r in my pc and watch it, the video works fine although I did not watch the whole thing. But the parts that skipped on my standalone dvd player do not skip on my pc.

Could it be my standalone dvd player? It's very old, something like 4-5 years old. The model of my standalone dvd player is:

JVC Dvd Player Model XV - S300BK

It's gonna take me a while to sit and watch the entire video on my pc because it is about two hours. But I will do it to see if it skips at all on my pc. By skipping I mean the image and or audio.

I'm gonna say that your stand alone dvd player is the issue...do you have a friend that has a newer dvd player (and I don't mean one of the $25.00 wally world specials) that you could check it out?? But that would be my verdict...a cobination of the dvd player itself, and it probably not liking the media your feeding it!!

I'll just buy a new standalone dvd player for my tv than.

I do have a very smart friend who said that burning video to DVD+R is not good. He claims that I should be using DVD-R for video, because the way the video is stored on a DVD+R disc is different than DVD-R. He said that DVD+R stores video in a more complicated way causing burning or playback probs.

    Could this be true?

check out http://dvd.box.sk for any dvdr and divx type issues, its very informative about dvd issues.

That simply is not true. You can use +R and -R for video, it just depends on what your player supports. It clearly supports +R, else it would say 'No Disc'. I suspect it has something to do with the shrinking process done by Clone DVD to fit a DVD9 on a DVD5 disc.

To rule out a defective DVD disc, download Nero CD-DVD Speed, insert one of your burned DVD's (not a blank one) and run 'ScanDisc' from the 'Extra' menu.

I will try neros cd-dvd speed thing. but what does it do exactly?

Anyways I will try it out and see what happens. This issue of having unsuccessful playback on dvds is really costing me a pretty penny while wasting dvd+r's.

Okay well ERICSKE I did use that. I went into the "Scan Disc" from the "Extra" menu, than I check marked "Surface Scan" (I did'nt checkmark "file test" since the "clonedvd2" program compacted the files to fit on the dvd+r... I'm guessing I checkmarked the right one), I than pressed start, and it finished with every block green saying 100% good!

I hope this was the procedure I was to follow because I have never used this tool before.

I am now going to sit down and watch this long video I burnt on dvd+r to see if it works while I play it on my pc. Ahhhhhh what a waste of time. Hope it does.

By the way when I burnt this one I used 1x speed. I think that is the first time I used 1x speed for video on these dvd+r's I bought. Before I used 2x, 4x, and 8x. The label on the discs spindle clearly said that it may not work on some burners at 2x or 4x speed. I guess maybe I ruled them out, finding out that it may be working only at 1xn (according to that nero scan you helped me do), and that when I tried burning at 8x before, they did'nt work probably because that was too fast.

You are not the only one having this problem. There are a lot of cases like this one on the web. I really think CloneDVD is causing this and not your discs/drive. Can you try to backup to your hard drive (make an image) with the exact same settings? Mount the image with daemon-tools afterwards and try to play that. If this fails, CloneDVD is your problem.

I apologize superstar...that is my fault...I was just reading the replies without seeing who was posting them, I just assumed it was you...otherwise I would have told him the same thing!! Sorry things got on the wrong track!!

Iwas thinking...If you want to rule out whether CloneDVD is the culprit...then try doing your task with DVDShrink, or DVDFab...and they are both free!! If the results are error free...then obviously DVDClone is the culprit!!

I will indeed have to try that. As for replying to the other person... no sweat I understand you just thought it was me. Thing is he should know that asking questions in other peoples threads cause us all to get confused as to who or what the question is. I run into that prob when answering threads too. I guess I will have to test the other software. As for that image mounting thing... Hmm I dunno how to do that. "Dvd Shrink" seems promising.

Mounting is not that difficult. DVDShrink is easier though...

i use clonedvd. I haven't upgraded to version 2 yet but I will soon. I have errors copying sometimes also. i found the compression to be the problem. If I really want a good copy I use dual layer dvd's for full length feature movies. I only use the 4.7 Gb disc for short fliks or if I am cutting out the subtitles and extras, and then only if I get at least 80% quality. The discs are 3x the price, but it's not worth backing up my discs if they have errors on them.

    superstar Major-Superstar

I'd agree with you somewhat... First off the old Clone Dvd is known to cause errors. I used to have the same problem with that program. Get the newer version it is so much more stable. I've never had an error or thrown out a disc using it. The version number is "2.9.0.1". The newerversion also gives out a better quality image.

By the way I started this thread because I was having dvd burning issues. In the end it was the fact that I was using a bad brand (tdk). I switched brands and never had a problem since. It was also the fact that the old Clone Dvd program is flaky.
