DVD Burning

Is it possible to burn a dvd without having the hardware? In other words I have a cd burner. Just wondered if there was software that might be capable of burning dvd with only cd hardware?

No. Think about it; if a CD burner could burn DVDs why would people spend more money to purchase a DVD burner?
Also CD burners and DVDs burners use different lasers. One uses red and the other blue (I'm guessing the DVD uses a blue wavelength because of the Blu-Ray disk).
If you buy a combo drive that burns both CDs and DVDs, it is also possible that one of the lasers can burn out so you end up only being able to burn one type of disk if it happens.

You cannot burn a DVD in a CD burner. CD burners only burn CDs. DVD burners will burn DVDs and CDs. CDROMs will not read DVDs; they only read CDs. DVDROMs will read DVDs and CDs. Following this logic, a CDRW (RW stands for Read/Write and Re-Writeable) will read and burn CDs, but not DVDs; a DVDRW will read and burn CDs and DVDs.

There is nothing you or anyone else can do to change this law of the PC universe.

It's like $25-$30 for a new dvd burner...

What you could do is convert the DVD and burn it to cd as a VCD, or use AutoGK and convert just the main movie files (.vobs) to a 700mb video file and then burn that file to cd.

I've never heard of a CD burner burning DVD's...I've heard that ppl have tried to find different programs to burn DVD's...never heard of it actually being done. If you succeed, you'd be the first,lol
