DVD Burning

OK, I am embarrassed to ask but what hardware do I need to burn a DVD. At present I have A DVD/CD-RW drive and a DVD drive. :-o

I selected external DVD burners. Externals cost a bit more than internals but they have two advantages: you do not have to open the computer to install it and you can use it on any computer if the computer has burning software installed.

If you truly have a DVD/CD-RW, then you have what you need to "burn" DVD's and CD's.

Mmmm, I have never worked with an on-line forum before. Where do I start looking for reference material so that I can select an external DVD burner. I have an XP and VISTA machine. Can't burn with the XP (wrong hardware), did burn with the VISTA but it won't play on my DVD player or the XP machine. I would prefer to have references that can teach and guide me towards making a reasonable decision about solving this problem but probably wouldn't complain if someone just told me what to do. Thank you for your help.

Start at the first page of this hardware section http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22 and click the new thread button. If you want to buy an external burner, mention what computer it would be used on (version of windows running) and what burning software you used.

If you have a software problem...such as, "I used a burning program but it can't be seen on my stand alone DVD player, what did I do wrong?", which is a software problem
start here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21 and again click the new thread button mentioning the software used and the version of windows you are running. It also doesn't hurt to mention the brand and model of computer so people reading can search and see what hardware your computer came with.
