DVD Burning

I have NeroSmart to burn cd's and dvd's. I tried for the first time to burn a copy of a dvd for myself off of one of my sister's dvd's. It said if it cannot be read try simulation trial first. I guess because of the copyright laws. Anyway, I did it in the simulation mode, it took 50 mins, but worked. Then I tried another one and even in the simulation mode, it won't let me do it. Is there a way around it?

This is strictly for my own use, not to sell. My eversize video is starting to crack around the center and I wanted to record it. Thanks.

 

Personaly If you want to burn them for sale or to make jewlery out of I'm not going to judge you. I never got anything to work with any program except one. 1 click dvd copy, inconjuction with a program called dvd43free, now maybe if you use that program DVD43free you will be able to be the write protection. but I know it works with one click. The drawback is it is a $50.00 program, and I couldn't find anything else that was easy to use and worked as well. dvd43free is a free program, you can do a google search and download it.

 

I've had immense luck backing up DVDs by using DVDDecrypter (freeware) to rip and burn, and DVDShrink (also freeware) to compress to single layer disc sizes (if necessary).

However, neither is updated any longer, so there may be difficulties ripping with them. (I've yet to encounter them, but hey...)
DVDFabDecrypter (yet more freeware!!!!) is supposed to be a fantastic ripper that IS currently updated, but I've never had to use it.

The process that works well for me is to rip a full image with DVDDecrypter, and then open that image in DVDShrink and compress it, and then burning the compressed image with DVDDecrypter again.
