DVD\CD Burner\Writer Not Reading Discs Consistently

I am having problems with my DVD drive. It seems it does not like to refresh new discs. When I remove a disc, Vista still reads the old disc. Additionally, it is represented by the generic icon. Now, it seems I can get around this after a few random clicks, refresh, etc. but there seems to be no rhyme of reason to how I can get Vista to recognize newly inserted discs seamlessly?

Offhand I don't recall the make/model of my drive. And I never installed drivers for it. Not sure if that could be an issue, as I assumed Vista would have done that for me when I installed the OS.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi 20,

Very interesting. Older versions of Windoze also exhibited the same fault. Most likely not caused by the Drive but, by the OS. It usually goes away on its own with the older OSs.

    Good Luck, Jim

I usually click the recycle bin, which I keep empty then go back and click on the drive I'm interested in. (I have to do this when using floppies in windows 2000).
