Dvd/Cd drive

    My son has a new desktop hpa6228x, he got this at christmas of 07, the dvd/cd drive will not work anymore, you can see it on my computer, all the properties say it is working properly, but when you try to open any type of cd, it says to insert cd into drive.

    i have uninstalled drivers, and worked some things in the registry, is it a waste of time to try and fix or should i look into purchasing a new one, this one is only a few months old.

    Does it recognize DVDs?

    It does not recognize any type of cd at all, i ran the hardware diagnostics test and it just kept telling me to insert the disc, i tried inserting dvds music cds, photo cds and data cds, it would not recognize any, but the drive would spin and try to read them.

    If Windows Explorer sees the drive but the drive can't read any CD nor DVD, it does sound like the drive is broken. If you have some sort of warranty for the computer, it might be worth it to contact the company. They might replace the optical drive.
